President DonaldTrumpposted on Truth Social on Monday thathewould nominate KeithSonderling, who is actinglaborsecretary, to take on therole permanently, which would require Senate approval.
“Throughout his career, Keith has proven his dedication to delivering strong results for theHardworking People of our Country, and I knowhewill do an incredible job in his new role,”Trumpsaid in thesocial media post.
Sonderlinghas been actinglaborleader since April after then-SecretaryLori Chavez-DeRemer resigned amid allegations of misconduct at thedepartment.
Sonderling hasheldseveral rolesin thefederal government, including inTrump’s first term. Last year,TrumptappedSonderlingfrom theU.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to be theLaborDepartment’s chief operating officer.
Sonderlingwas confirmed for his deputy position by theRepublican-controlled Senate in a 53-46 vote.
